Tax Credit Alliance of Nebraska (TCAN) offers a variety of ways to serve our community, including in-person tax sites both in and outside of Lincoln, virtual services, and our Facilitated Self-Assistance (FSA) option. These flexible formats allowed us to provide trusted, free support tailored to each taxpayer’s needs
TCAN is sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and is a project under the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center on Children, Families, and the Law. TCAN also partners with local nonprofit organizations to help with costs associated with running the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in communities across Nebraska.
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program is part of TCAN, volunteer-based, and provides free tax preparation to:
- individuals and families with low-to-moderate income,
- non-filing families with children,
- individuals who speak English as an additional language,
- individuals with disabilities and,
- students and older adults in the community.
TCAN continues to advance our mission of building stronger communities through dependable and inclusive tax assistance. Each year, we enhance volunteer training, improve our processes, and expand outreach to better serve communities in Nebraska.
