TCAN Volunteer Training on the CCFL CAFÉ
The TCAN volunteer training is hosted on the CCFL CAFÉ and is designed to ensure you’re fully prepared for your role. Through this platform, you’ll access all the tools and resources needed to complete your required training and certifications. Here’s how it works:
- Access the CCFL CAFÉ
- Once you’re registered as a TCAN volunteer, you’ll receive instruction on how to access the CCFL CAFÉ.
- Log in to view your assigned role-specific course.
- Complete Role-Specific Training
- Inside your course, you’ll find links to the IRS Link & Learn website, where you will complete the required training and certification exams for your role.
- Follow the instructions provided to access the correct modules on Link & Learn.
- Submit Your Certificates
- After completing the Link & Learn training, download your certificates of completion.
- Upload your certificates directly to the CCFL CAFE LMS to confirm your training is complete.

Tax Credit Alliance Of Nebraska YouTube Channel
Access our library of training videos. These are self-paced videos that can assist you in preparing for your certification exams. Most of these videos are from last year but they are still applicable. Videos are periodically added from Nov-Jan and we will notify you when they are available.
Link & Learn Taxes e-Learning
Link & Learn Taxes is self-paced e-learning for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (VITA/TCE) program. This training will instruct you in the VITA/TCE return preparation process and tax law covered in the VITA/TCE program. Volunteers must certify each year by taking the exam(s) on Link & Learn.
TaxSlayer Practice Lab
Prepare returns for the certificate exams through a practice version of TaxSlayer. Initial Password is: TRAINPROWEB
Volunteer Assistor’s Test/Retest (Publication 6744)
Volunteers are required to pass certain IRS certification exams based on their desired role. Find the electronic test booklet here. Physical copies are available upon request.
VITA/TCE Volunteer Resource Guide (Publication 4012)
Your go-to guide for training and certification, the 4012 contains helpful instructions for preparing accurate tax returns. Tax certified volunteers should become familiar with the 4012 throughout training and certification. Physical copies are available upon request and will be available at all tax clinic sites.

The IRS’s VITA training guide provides additional information and context to training.
VITA/TCE Volunteer Standards of Conduct – Ethics Training (Publication 4961)
Annually all VITA/TCE volunteers must pass the Volunteer Standards of Conduct (VSC) certification test and agree that they will adhere to the VSC.
VITA/TCE Intake/Interview and Quality Review Training (Publication 5101)
Training designed to help ensure taxpayers are given the opportunity to provide all needed information before their tax return is prepared.
